Can a serious strategy game really work on a phone?
There's an old assumption that proper strategy games need a mouse, a big monitor and a few hours of uninterrupted time. Phones offer none of those things. So can the genre actually work in your hand?
Playing Iron Tide Command convinced me the answer is a cautious yes, with caveats. The depth is absolutely there. Managing supply lines and fleet composition scratches the same itch as the big desktop games. The strategy doesn't get dumbed down just because it's mobile.
The real challenge is the interface. Dense information on a small screen means a lot of pinching, zooming and tapping tiny buttons. On a phone it can get frustrating. On a tablet it's a different story entirely, and I'd genuinely recommend playing it there if you can.
So my takeaway is that the ideas port over fine, it's the ergonomics that struggle. Developers who design for touch from the ground up, rather than shrinking a PC layout, are the ones who make it work.
