What actually makes a mobile RPG worth your time
Mobile RPGs are a minefield. For every Emberfall Saga there are ten games that are basically a shop with a story bolted on. Over the years I've developed a rough checklist for figuring out which ones deserve a real commitment.
The first thing I look at is whether the combat asks me to think. If I can auto-battle my way through every fight without paying attention, the game doesn't respect my time. Good RPGs make positioning, timing or team-building matter.
The second is writing. It doesn't have to be Shakespeare, but if the story is just filler between fights, I'll drift away fast. The games that stick with me have characters I actually care about.
And the third, sadly, is how aggressively the game monetizes. Energy timers and pop-up shops are everywhere now. The best ones keep that stuff out of your face and let you play. My rule: if I can't enjoy an hour without being nagged, it's out.
